Mastering Pediatric Manual Ventilation With EOlife X

It is estimated that more than 20,000 children have cardiac arrest annually in the United States. (1) According to the American Heart Association, asphyxia cardiac arrest in infants and children is more common than cardiac arrest from a primary cardiac event, making effective ventilation the most important during resuscitation.

Quality ventilation is imperative, but studies show that even experienced professionals struggle to perform adequate ventilation, especially when the patient is a child.

A study conducted by Mathew Hansen et al. concluded that prehospital providers face many challenges in pediatric airway management, with provider inexperience and lack of training being the most common. The authors stated that because pediatric airway management is a low-frequency, high-risk event for prehospital providers, repeated training is needed. (2)

What Are the Differences in Pediatric CPR?

    • Oxygen consumption is doubled compared to adults. (3)
    • Extremely small tidal volumes. The risk of hyperventilation and barotrauma is even more important. (4)
    • Facial structure is softer and easier to compress in pediatric patients, this leads to a higher risk of excessive leakage around the mask. (5)

EOlife X®: The World’s First Pediatric Ventilation Training Tool

The EOlife X from Archeon Medical is a unique and innovative manual ventilation feedback device that teaches proper adult and pediatric airway management.

The device adapts to each bag, mask, and tracheal tube to measure and give real-time, visual feedback on insufflated volume, exhaled volume, ventilation rate, and gas leakage.

EOlife X includes a dedicated mode for pediatric ventilation training. It adjusts tidal volumes and target frequencies based on the patient’s age. EOlife X defines the target ventilation parameters, for each age category. It is based on the theoretical age of the patient easily identifiable by a color code given by the Broselow® scale (US) or Handtevy tape used worldwide.

Learn, maintain, and perfect good airway management and ventilation techniques with the EOlife X by Archeon Medical.
