Invented by Emergency and Trauma Surgeon John Aho, MD, PhD, Capnospot is specially designed to assist first responders in the treatment of tension pneumothorax.

Capnospot Is Superior To The Current Practice

Tension pneumothorax is life-threatening and must be treated quickly. In the chaotic pre-hospital environment, it is often difficult for first responders to hear the “gush of air” that indicates needle decompression success. The Capnospot is a needle decompression indicator that uses a simple color change to confirm if the needle is in the right place for a successful procedure. The user will see the color change from blue to yellow when CO2 moves from the thoracic cavity through the Capnospot.

The Capnospot has received FDA clearance and a superiority claim: “Used for more accurate placement of pneumothorax decompression devices than the current standard of care auditory assessments.”
