Protect Against Harmful Moisture-Harboring Bacteria with AquaGuard®
Keeping a clean and dry dressing on patients who have an IV or surgical site is extremely important in preventing infections and complications. When showering, preventing moisture from reaching these areas can be tricky. Unprotected surgical dressings and IV sites, even if not under a direct water stream, are subject to moisture-harboring bacteria while showering.
A study on more than 50 showerheads in nine different cities performed by the University of Colorado found that showerheads can be a breeding ground for pathogens.¹ The study found that approximately 30 percent of showerheads observed contained significant levels of Mycobacterium avium, a relative to the same bacteria that causes tuberculosis. This can be a large concern for patients who have a compromised and weakened immune system.
The AquaGuard® from TIDI is designed to protect patients against moisture and the harmful bacteria that can harbor within it. This device acts as a complete moisture barrier between the patient and the protected area. AquaGuard® is made with a specially designed medical adhesive that protects surgical dressings, IV lines, and casts against disruptions that may cause complications or infections.
